The story of the Winery Jeeper started in 1949. In that year, Armand Goutorbe, son of the famous winemaker Victor Goutorbe, decided on his return from the Second World War to produce and sell his own champagne. Armand Goutorbe returned with two broken legs and was given a Jeep to do his work in the vineyard. Because Armand wanted to distinguish himself from other champagne makers with the same surname, he named his champagne after the Jeep that was so dear to him.
A lemon color with silver-golden reflections, tiny bubbles and a thick foam in expansion open the tasting. On the nose, scents of cannelés and caramelized custard combine. The mouth, also thick, embarks in a salty-sweet register. Minerals accentuate the sweet and sour elements and a modern style compromises the freshness and elegance expected on this 2008.
Blend: 60% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir, 10% Pinot Meunier
Tasting Notes
94 James Suckling
Impressive wet stones and chalky mineral aromas here with a savory overlay of fresh white almonds and brioche. Poached pears, peaches and grilled lemons, too. The palate has attractive acid punch and a strong core of apple pastry and lemons. It finishes with grilled almonds. Drink or hold.
