This week's sampler is running a little late - we will have all the cheeses after Thursday afternoon. If it is backordered, go ahead and order, we will have one for you.
This week we are featuring cheeses from around the Mediterranean or that fit with the Mediterranean diet and lifestyle. We have a couple new ones and a returning favorite.
This semihard cow’s milk cheese has been produced for centuries at the base of a mountain named Grappa in the region of Veneto. It comes from the same area as Asiago but exhibits a different flavor: nutty with a sweet finish and the texture of cheddar. Aged a minimum of 8-10 months, Montegrappa is golden in color and has its name brandished into the rind. We are the sole importers, and no, it is not bathed in Grappa!
Naked Goat is aged 9 months, and offers a piquant, robust and earthly complex flavor profile that smacks of a bright minerality and the dry grasses of the Spanish plains. It is a nice raw goat’s milk, semi-hard cheese with a smooth, buttery taste.
The Manchego cheese is produced in the La Mancha region of Spain, which is also home to Don Quixote. It is made from pasteurised sheep's milk. It is one of the popular cheeses from Spain and comes under the PDO (DOP) guidelines.
