Boscarelli's Riserva "Sotto Casa" is a Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG that the winery began producing in 2011 as a natural evolution of the Riserva, in which to harmonize even more finely elegance, character and freshness brought by the blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The main difference with the "classic" Riserva lies in the fact that in the "Sotto Casa" the grapes of the three vines come from a single parcel, a real cru of extraordinary quality. Fermentation and aging take place separately in barrels of different capacities and origins, and the maturation phase lasts 28-32 months. A label that has excellent aging potential and that touches the qualitative peaks of the entire range made by Boscarelli.
In the glass it develops with a ruby red color. The bouquet of notes that develop on the nose recalls touches of cherry, plum, leather and more mineral sensations, enriched by a light smoky nuance. Of excellent structure, it has an elegant and concentrated sip, in which the silky texture of the tannins is appreciated.
Blend: 80% Sangiovese Prugnolo Gentile, 15% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon
95 James Suckling This has a rather glossy, deep ruby hue and the orange tinge is not even developed yet. Very youthful and a lot less savory than most of the Boscarelli offerings showing the usual mineral attraction, but this comes with a little more fruit, spices and even plushness. Deep cherry, plum, mussel and oyster shell characters on the nose follow through to a full-bodied palate drenched with firm, chalky tannins. The impressive structure ends in a neat, mineral finish. Almost a bit embryonic now despite its more eclectic and probably less traditional style. Wait two to three years before opening the bottle. Should keep very well in the next 10-15 years.
