Bouchard Père & Fils' 2019 Beaune Premier Cru "Clos du Roi" is a wine steeped in history, from a terroir once owned by the Dukes of Bourgogne. In 1482, when Louis XI attached Bourgogne to the French crown, this prestigious vineyard was renamed Clos du Roi. Today, Domaine manages a 0.83-hectare parcel, producing a wine of great elegance and complexity.
Located in Côte de Beaune, below Les Marconnets, this climate is based on predominantly limestone-clay soil, which favors optimum ripening of the Pinot Noir grape. Its east/south-east to south-east exposure provides a good thermal amplitude, ideal for the balance between freshness and ripeness of the grapes.
This 2019 vintage boasts a garnet-red color with mauve and brown highlights. The nose reveals a seductive bouquet of cooked fruit, citrus zest and a subtle touch of toast. On the palate, it offers fullness and roundness, with a delicate toastiness and long, lingering finish.
