The oldest DOCG in Italy, and the only one for white wines in Tuscany. This wine is made from organically produced and manually selected Vernaccia grapes from the oldest vineyard of this estate. The 50-year-old vines provide extra depth and complexity in this pure example of good Vernaccia. The vineyards are rich with fossils that one would expect to find on the seabed. The soil is therefore rich in chalky clay, which is responsible for the wonderful minerality in this wine.
A clear and juicy wine with aromas of citrus and white flowers. A wine with an elegant profile and a good finish.
!00% Vernaccia di San Gimignano
95 Decanter Third generation Flavia del Seta and husband Francesco Galgani make five distinct, well conceived Vernaccias from nearly 10 hectares of vines just a brief stroll from San Gimignano town. Pristine fruit means there is plenty of scope both for long lees contact across the range and coherent low-sulphite natural winemaking in Prima Luce, their flavourful amphora wine. This entry level Cappella Sant'Andrea bottling comes from sandy-clay soils of marine origin and shows classic white and yellow fruit flavours supported by a deliciously light, lees-driven creamy undertow.
