Nestled among its own vineyards in the heart of Lalande de Pomerol, Château Belles-Graves is a picturesque estate steeped in history. Vines have been cultivated here since at least the 16th century, and the château itself dates to the 18th century. Owned by the Theallet family since 1938 and now led by grandson Xavier Piton, the 17-hectare property combines Bordeaux tradition with a warm family legacy. Adding to its unique story, legendary explorer Jacques Cousteau, a family relative, was a regular visitor who returned each year to taste the new vintage before setting off on his next adventure.
Belles‑Graves wines are Merlot‑based Bordeaux Libournais reds with a lush, velvety texture, very fine tannins, and balanced acidity. They are often described as complex yet accessible, offering depth without the heaviness of more expensive Pomerol wines.
Blend: 88% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc
Reviews
91 JamesSuckling.com Plenty of blackberry, blackcurrant, and black earth aromas and flavors follow through to a medium body, firm tannins and a savory finish. Drink after 2024.
91 Wine Enthusiast This is a big wine, rich in tannins and firmly packed with acidity and black currant fruit flavors. The black chocolate aroma and the structured core are finely chiseled. Drink from 2027.
