Château Croizet-Bages is a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé (1855 classification) estate in Pauillac, Bordeaux. The 2017 vintage was shaped by challenging weather conditions, but the estate managed to craft a wine that balances Cabernet’s power with Merlot’s generosity and a touch of Cabernet Franc for finesse
All the purity of crunchy and charming fruit lingers on candied cherry notes. A touch of petit verdot gives the wine all its colourful verve. The cabernet sauvignon, the true backbone of this great wine, brings an aromatic power and length that will reveal itself in the coming years. With notes of black fruit and cedarwood, the tannic structure combines lovely fatness and fullness with remarkable generosity. Rich, deep and elegant, Château Croizet-Bages will open up an aromatic palette of ripe plum with nuances of cocoa, spice and leather as it develops.
Blend: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc
91 Decanter Smoked edges, with fleshy fruits and a sense of delicacy and elegance, if a little lacking in concentration through the mid palate. They are doing a good job here of balancing the austerity of the vintage with smart work in the cellar. Enjoyable flourish of menthol on the finish. Drinking Window: 2023 - 2040
90 James Suckling A tight, firm palate with currant and raspberry character, as well as citrus undertones. Medium body. Crisp and creamy tannins. This is all in a tight, focused package. A little lean, but nicely crafted. Drink after 2021.
