Château Durfort-Vivens is a Second Growth, 55-hectare estate that is widely regarded to be one of the finest producers in Margaux. It is currently owned and managed by Gonzague Lurton, who, together with his wife Claire, is known for his early commitment to organic and biodynamic vineyard practices.
Durfort-Vivens vineyard is composed of 83 plots and extends over 4 villages of the Margaux appellation: Cantenac, Soussans, Margaux et Arsac. The best parcels are blended to create our grand vin, Chateau Durfort-Vivens. Vinified separately, the blocks of these plots give birth to 3 cuvées - Les Plantes, Le Plateau, and Le Hameau: the parcels of Durfort-Vivens.
The nose opens with pronounced iodine and mineral tones, layered with subtle red fruit and a hint of chocolate. On the palate, it’s mouthwatering and vibrant, carrying a long, sweet‑edged freshness. The texture is supple, generous, and thoroughly satisfying.
Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot
92 Vinous Media The 2020 Les Plantes, the young vines bottling in this range, is packed with super-ripe dark red/black fruit, graphite, leather, tobacco and licorice. Powerful and heady, with exotic ripeness and tons of sheer allure, the Plantes is gorgeous. Ripeness is definitely pushed to the edge.
90 Falstaff Dark ruby, purple reflections, soft brightening on the rim. Ripe plums, a hint of figs and nougat, violets, a touch of dried fruit in the background. Medium complexity, subtle black olive notes, firm, still somewhat demanding structural tannins on the finish, a touch rustic.
90 Decanter Floral nose, perfumed with dark fruit - cherries, blackcurrants - ripe but with a smooth texture on the palate. Youthful and lively with appealing graphite and pencil lead minerality and a lovely overall brightness and sense of ease. Nuanced and detailed with a medium-body but feels a little restricted with heat/alcohol touches on the finish. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2030
