Domaine Henri Gouges produces some of the most highly regarded wines in Nuits-Saint-Georges. All the vines are cultivated organically and have an impressive average of 50 years, with some as old as 90. It is a historical, family domaine, now run by Grégory Gouges and his cousin Antoine, both from the fourth generation of the family.
It is the fruit of a blending of 5 climates: the Plateaux, Belles Croix, Fleurières, Brûlées, and the Chaliots, for a surface area of 2 hectares. All of these parcels are located at the south of Nuits Saint Georges, at the start of the hillside, on deep soils, with a blending of clay, alluvium and limestone gravels. These wines are pure and generous, and need a few years before being tasted, to show their true potential.
Good volume and intensity on the nose, lots of red fruits with a chalky frame and a touch of oak. It?s generous, juicy and supple, with a spicy red fruit character and a creamy mix of blue, black and red fruits. Has a real ease about it. 2-9 years.
90 Jasper Morris Racked, and thus fully blended, to be bottled by the end of November. Mid purple, with a perfumed dark red fruit. Vigorous, well-balanced tannins, and good but not trenchant acidity. A fine long finish which remains fresh even though the fruit is clearly ripe. Very persistent. Drink from 2029-2037. Tasted Nov 2023. 90-92 points
90 Vinous The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Village is aged in 25% new oak. There’s bright red berry fruit, light sous-bois and a hint of potpourri blossom on the well-defined nose. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins. Modest depth, cohesive with a gradual crescendo on the finish; this is definitely a level up from the previous vintage.
