Product description

Great red wine of Burgundy located in the town of Aloxe-Corton. The grape variety is Pinot Noir. The vines are 50 years old.

Tasting: With an intense and brilliant garnet colour, a dense and complex nose, Corton wines are rich, powerful and more complete than the little brother Aloxe-Corton. It is fleshy, racy and generous with an excellent conservation potential combining power and finesse. Young, it remains on notes of spicy fruit, blackcurrant kirsch then evolves, as it ages, on aromas of undergrowth, truffles and leather. Due to the high age of the vines this wine has an incomparable fat; to be enjoyed between 4 and 15 years old.

It accompanies the duck with orange, beautiful meats in sauce, hare stew, deer hazelnut, ripened cheeses. Serve at 15°C.

Vinification in red: We are looking for fruity and rich wines with melted tannins as well ripe grapes know how to give. We return the grapes in small boxes, in order to carry out a meticulous sorting at the winery, a carpet allows us to fill the vats respecting the grapes. The fermentation takes place for 15 days with pigeages so that the richness and color of the skin are transmitted to the wine before pressing. Ageing takes place in barrels, 20% of which are in new barrels. Racking with a bellows eliminates the use of the pump. All these precautions make it possible to limit as much as possible the handling of grapes and wine in order to preserve all their richness.

Terroir: The hill of Corton stands north of Beaune.

Corton is a compound meaning "the court of Otto". The cortis type designating the enclosure, the farmyard in medieval Latin became the equivalent of the Gallo-Roman villa to designate an estate whose owner originally belonged to the Frankish aristocracy.

Corton occupies the south-facing slope of the hill. In Côte de Beaune, it is the only red Grand Cru.

Corton is produced on two climates, Corton Combes (valleys), Corton Les Chaumes (stony plateaus) and the Voie Rosse (ancient form of "redhead" probably evoking a ferruginous land).
