Elk Cove Vineyards is one of Oregon's oldest and most respected wine producers. Established in 1974 by Pat and Joe Campbell on a secluded property in North Willamette Valley, they only produce Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Riesling. Winemaker Adam Campbell continues the family tradition of noninterventionist winemaking through proper site selection, meticulous vine management and low yields.
The Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is made with 100% estate grown fruit from all six of their vineyard sites: The Winery Estate, Mount Richmond, Five Mountain, Clay Court, Goodrich and Windhill. These sites are comprised of both Pommard and Dijon plant material, with multiple clones represented. Because they draw from vineyards representing all three of the major Willamette Valley soil types, they are able to pick and choose for different flavor components to make the best possible blend each year for their Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.
A brambly nose of black currents, tart cherries, and violets is met with spicy cardamom and cinnamon. A core of juicy red cherry, cocoa nibs and leather on the palate is complemented by fine tannins evocative of dried leaves, pipe tobacco and anise.
93 Tasting Panel This is a Pinot that deftly walks the line between subtlety and sweet fruitiness. Red berry and cherry flavors stand at center stage, with a faint whiff of oak spice lending complexity along with a tender tug of tannin that frames the finish.
91 James Suckling A fresh, juicy, light- to medium-bodied wine with loads of red-cherry, spice and rose-petal aromas. Fine, gentle tannins and a silky texture.
