The 2021 Nipozzano Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva shows a clear ruby red color. On the nose, the attack is fruity and floral at the same time with hints reminiscent of blackcurrants, blueberries and raspberries; floral notes reminiscent of violets and dog roses follow. This is followed by spicy notes reminiscent of black pepper, cloves and star anise. Delicate tertiary notes and freshness given by balsamic and citrus scents are also interesting. The palate reveals a nice acid-alcoholic component and the tannic texture is well present, dense and silky. The taste-olfactory response is remarkable. The finish is pleasantly persistent and balanced in its various components.
92 James Suckling A well-rounded, balanced and seductive riserva with notes of red berries, cherries, Mediterranean herbs and mild spices on the nose, following through to a medium body with fine tannins. Focused and textured with a succulent finish.
92 Decanter Aromas of leather, red plums, raspberries and dried herbs are followed by fresh acidity and good fruit concentration which provide a counterweight to the tannins. Ends on a savory note. Great now but will age too.
91 Wine Spectator Black cherry and blackberry fruit is shaded by notes of iron and earth, plus a hint of orange peel. This ripe and lively red is balanced, ending with a light dusting of tannins.
