The plots intended for this exceptional vintage come from a Miocene ridge, located on a unique and limited site called “La Forge” by the land registry. The blend of the two grape varieties gives this vintage: a beautiful aromatic expression and reveals the nobility of the wine through the Carignan. The Villemajou estate is the historical cradle of the Gérard Bertrand family and has been the spearhead of the Boutenac appellation, the first classified growth of the Corbières recognized by the INAO, the National Institute of Appellations of Origin.
This wine has a dark robe, the color of ripe cherry. The explosive nose opens with notes of black Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, toasted bread, spices, and cloves. With great sweetness, the very ample palate reveals powerful and elegant aromas, evoking jammy red fruits. It is a very fine wine with soft tannins and a spicy finish.
96 James Suckling Aromatic and complex nose with dark berries, dark cherries, black olives, dried herbs, roasted meat, baking spices, undergrowth and tobacco leaves. It’s full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Well built with an intense development of dark berries, herbs and spices mingling around the center. Lively with tension and a wise structure supporting the focused and textural long finish. Try after 2024.
91 Wine Spectator A well-knit red, featuring fresh blackberry and mocha-dusted plum flavors that are concentrated and juicy, with the substantial ripe fruit enveloping a lush, creamy palate. This is nicely balanced by bitter chocolate, smoked bacon, roasted herbs and a deep vein of minerality. Carignan and Syrah. Drink now through 2030. 861 cases made.
