Product description

Perched near the village of Roquetaillade in the foothills of the Pyrenees, Domaine de l’Aigle is one of the highest‑elevation vineyards in the Upper Aude Valley—and one of the most distinctive estates in the Languedoc. Owned by Gérard Bertrand, the region’s leading ambassador for Southern French terroir, the 47‑hectare property sits between 250 and 500 meters in altitude, giving its Pinot Noir a climate strikingly similar to Burgundy: oceanic influence, steady rainfall, and dramatic day‑night temperature swings.

The estate is farmed sustainably under the Terra Vitis certification, ensuring full traceability and independently verified environmental practices. These cooler mountain conditions, combined with Bertrand’s commitment to precision and ecological stewardship, allow Domaine de l’Aigle to produce Pinot Noir with remarkable freshness, purity, and finesse—an elegant outlier in the sun‑drenched Languedoc.

Ruby red color with light copper highlights. The nose is dominated by very intense aromas of small berries such as raspberry and redcurrant, and toasted notes. Tender, fruity and finely spicy on the palate. Fine and silky tannins, exceptional structure. Long and fruity finish. An ideal match for grilled red meat, roasted poultry, fish in sauce or grilled, and fine cheeses.

Reviews

94 Decanter Impressive toasty oak, strawberry, thyme and a hint of violet. Fine grained tannins with notes of sweet spice and complex ripe berry fruit. Won Silver at the 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards.

91 Anthony Gismondi on Wine The Domaine de l’Aigle is situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees near Roquetaillade and Limoux. The 31 hectare estate is strategically planted from 250 to 500 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest vineyard sites in the Languedoc. Gerard Bertrand notes that the regional conditions for Pinot Noir are similar to those in Burgundy: “an oceanic climate with continental influences, frequent rainfall, and a wide temperature range.” The 2023 vintage opens with spicy notes of forest floor and wild countryside underbrush, with a hint of red fruit. The attack is juicy, with more cool climate plums and cherries with a dusting of white pepper. The texture leans more towards a medium weight, with silky tannins. It’s a bit of a cross between Pommard and Oregon. This label is a work in progress, and I believe it is progressing well. It spends nine months in French oak barrels before bottling.
