IDDA Etna Rosso is the refined red wine made at IDDA from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes, cultivated on the south-facing slopes and north-facing slopes of Mount Etna. Representing the Gaja and Graci families’ partnership, this wine showcases the volcanic terroir with subtle finesse. It offers aromas of red berries, wild herbs, and spices, complemented by silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a mineral backbone, a harmonious expression of Mount Etna's southern slopes.
The IDDA Rosso 2022 offers a consistent and fragrant nose, rich and warm with notes of red fruits like cherry and mulberry, complemented by mineral hints of graphite and spices. On the palate, it is explosive, releasing flavors of bitter cherries and black currants, followed by pronounced minerality that reflects its terroir. It presents a rich complexity with a well balanced interplay of tannins and acidity. The finish is long and lingering, characterized by notes of black pepper.
Blend: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio
94 Wine Enthusiast The nose is spicy and warm, with aromas of Mediterranean herbs, citrus, cherry blossoms and terra cotta, and a cooling sea breeze blowing through it all. Cherries and orange slices define the palate, but lots more herbs and soil provide balance, and acid adds a bright punchiness, even as the fruit gives warmth and comfort.
94 James Suckling Bright and vivid with strawberry and cherry aromas highlighted with lemon zest and ash. Medium-bodied, this has a lovely core of fruit and fine tannins that are almost dusty. Turns to smoke, mineral and red fruits toward the end.
92 Wine Spectator There's a lovely, fragrant underpinning of tar-tinged smoke and Turkish spices wafting through the flavors of dried cherry and raspberry, red licorice, and macchia. Backed by vivid acidity and firm, snappy tannins, this is well-structured and harmonious, with a lasting, mineral-laced finish. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Best from 2027 through 2032. 600 cases imported.
