Illumination began in 2002 when Agustin Huneeus planted a small half‑acre of Sauvignon Blanc on the cool, alluvial soils at the northwest edge of the Quintessa estate—an area better known for Cabernet Sauvignon but perfectly suited to producing a vibrant white wine he could share with friends and family. The wine quickly gained a following among sommeliers and guests, prompting the team to source additional fruit from select vineyards in Rutherford and the cooler southern reaches of Napa Valley. Each site is chosen for its alluvial soils, low yields, and ability to deliver concentration, mineral tension, and bright, expressive character. What started as a tiny, personal project has evolved into a sought‑after Sauvignon Blanc that still reflects its original spirit of elegance, freshness, and place.
A remarkable depth of flavor comes through: notes of lemon zest, honeysuckle, peach blossom, and quince are all elevated by a lovely acidity. A savory minerality layers itself among the appealing fruit flavors and hints at the complexity that will continue to reveal itself.
