Marchesi di Barolo spans roughly 430 acres of prime Langhe vineyards, including the famed Cannubi cru, with historic cellars in the village of Barolo overlooking the Renaissance castle of the Marchesi Falletti. Barolo itself was first shaped in the early 19th century by Marchese Carlo Tancredi Falletti and his wife Giulia, whose estate wines became known as “the wine from Barolo” and were served at diplomatic and royal tables. With no heirs, the Marchesi donated their assets to create the charitable foundation Opera Pia Barolo, which is still supported today by wine sales from their vineyards. In 1929, local winemaker Pietro Abbona purchased the Marchesi cellars and later their vineyard holdings, establishing a new family legacy that continues under fifth‑generation winemaker Ernesto Abbona, his wife Anna, and their children Valentina and Davide who have inherited a longstanding winemaking tradition and a love of the vineyards and its wines.
The color is pale straw yellow with greenish reflections. The scent is intense and fine, fruity and floral, persistent. Reminiscent of golden apples and green almonds. The scent of chamomile flowers is clear. The flavor is harmonious and with a marked flavor. A classic wine for tasty appetizers, seafood and fish. Thanks to its structure and minerality, it goes well with rice salads, vegetable pies, light first courses and seafood dishes. It goes very well with soft fresh cheeses.
