Marqués de Murrieta Reserva captures the heart of classic Rioja while embracing the precision of contemporary winemaking. Blended from Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano, it layers ripe, expressive fruit with lively acidity, a supple, rounded texture, and a subtle touch of new oak. The grapes come from the historic Ygay Estate in Rioja Alta, a 741‑acre property rising from 320 to 485 meters in elevation. Since acquiring the estate in 1983, the Cebrián‑Sagarriga family has upheld a philosophy rooted in quality, honoring the winery’s 1852 origins while continually refining techniques through thoughtful innovation.
A great commitment to excellence translated into an elegant and precise wine that dazzles with its appealing fragrance and indelible finish. Pairs beautifully with milk-fed lamb chops with buttermilk, asparagus and red wine; suckling pig confit with its crunchy skin and caramelized apple. Decanting the wine for 20 minutes is recommended. Best enjoyed between 59º- 61ºF.
Blend: 86% Tempranillo, 8% Graciano, 4% Mazuelo, 2% Garnacha
96 Jeb Dunnuck Even more outstanding than the 2020, the incredibly priced 2021 Reserva is young in boisterous blue fruit, with a generous, full-bodied palate of richness and upfront power. The tannins add length and breadth to the wine, which is tasting great and could go another 10-15 years. Maturity: 2026 - 2041
96 Decanter Elegant yet perfectly structured, this is the most floral of the Murrieta Reservas I’ve tasted in recent years. With 8% Graciano and 4% Mazuelo, the nose is perfumed with pretty rose petal and delicate red berry fruit, as well as wild herbal aromas. Blueberry fruit typical of Tempranillo directs the palate, rounded out with a little fleshy Garnacha, and framed by subtle American oak. It offers immediate appeal but will age gracefully for many years to come. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2036
95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2021 Marqués de Murrieta blends 86% Tempranillo, 4% Mazuelo, 8% Graciano and 2% Garnacha. This aged for 26 months in barrels. The complex nose offers cherry, traces of camphor and cassis, dried flowers and blood orange. In the mouth, it's juicy, supple and layered, with flexible tannins and a rich, sustained finish. The 2021 is a refined, expressive red enhanced by an elegant vintage.

91 Wine Spectator A subtle, aromatic thread of baking spices and floral notes accents the warm cherry, plum and fig fruit flavors on display in this elegant red. There’s a plush feel of accessibility but also good definition via the fine-grained tannins, refreshing acidity and minerally underpinning. Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo. Drink now through 2036.
