High above the heart of Chianti Classico, perched over 500 meters in the hills of Panzano, Montefili crafts high‑altitude, low‑intervention wines that channel Sangiovese in its purest, most expressive form. Founded in 1975 with what became Panzano’s first single‑vineyard “Cru,” the estate was revitalized in 2015, yet its historic vines still anchor the iconic Anfiteatro Toscana IGT.
Deep ruby. On the nose, pronounced bouquet of dark fruit, cloves, and chocolate. On the palate, structured, balanced and fresh, with an array of ripe black and red fruits followed by complex notes of cinnamon, licorice and menthol.
Pair with grilled and braised red meats, mature cheeses, or rich pasta dishes.
93 James Suckling Aromas of ripe dark berries, sweet spices and walnuts with some earthy and tarry undertones. Medium- to full-bodied, firm and structured with velvety tannins and depth to the fruit. Lingering finish. Better after 2025.
