Founded in 1694, the Planeta family has deep agricultural roots, but it was in the 1990s under Diego Planeta and the younger generation that the winery became a driving force in Sicily’s wine renaissance. Today, Planeta operates across six diverse estates—Ulmo in Sambuca di Sicilia, Dispensa in Menfi, Dorilli in Vittoria, Buonivini in Noto, Sciara Nuova on Mount Etna, and La Baronia in Capo Milazzo—each reflecting the island’s varied terroirs. With vineyards spanning coastal plains, volcanic slopes, and historic towns, Planeta produces wines that highlight both native Sicilian grapes like Nero d’Avola and Carricante, and international varieties such as Chardonnay and Syrah. Guided by sustainability, cultural heritage, and innovation, Planeta has become a symbol of Sicily’s transformation into a world-class wine region.

90 Wine Enthusiast Warm red fruit aromas of cranberries, cherries and hibiscus provide balance on an overall earthy, umami nose, while sweeter fruit notes of strawberries, candied blood orange and more cherries carry the palate, with balance preserved by a dusting of salt and pepper and a lightly spicy finish.
