From the time Starmont first appeared on a label in 1989, the name has been recognized for classically styled varietal wines that are expressive and approachable. Now, over 30 years later, led by the Schlatter Family and Winemaker Jeff Crawford, Starmont is producing some of their best wines ever as part of the Merryvale Family of Wines.
In our continued quest to deliver impressive quality at a reasonable price, we have expanded our sourcing for Starmont Pinot Noir. For the 2020, the blend comes from three different counties (Monterey 47%, Santa Barbara 46% and Napa 7%).
Our goal for Starmont Pinot Noir is varietal typicity and balance, with just the right amount of restraint to achieve a
fresh, elegant example of Pinot Noir from California’s top cool climate winegrowing regions. The 2020 brings through notes of black plum and cherry buffeted with earthy notes of bramble and forest floor with an impression of graham cracker on the nose. A fresh entry on the palate gives way to an unctuous mid-palate that finishes with bright acidity.
90 James Suckling Juicy red fruit here with cherries, pink peppercorns and roasted strawberries. Some tobacco leaf. Tangy and fresh with a medium body and crunchy tannins. 47% Monterey, 46% Santa Barbara and 7% Napa.
90 Wine Enthusiast An all-around engaging Pinot Noir with fresh fruit notes of red and black cherry, plum and red currant complemented by earthier tones of forest floor and toasted wood. With a dusty tannic texture, vibrant acidity and vivacious intensity of aromas and flavors, this is an easy Pinot Noir to love.
