Château Clinet’s vineyards are the highest in Pomerol. It is also one of the oldest estates in Pomerol, with records showing vines planted in 1785. In the 18th century Clinet and Pétrus were under the same ownership. Jean-Louis Laborde bought the estate in 1998. His son Ronan, could have been a marathon runner, instead, he took over management in 2004 and made his life’s work the return of Clinet to its previous position as one of the very top wines of Pomerol.
The “By Clinet” label was created to blend the various terroirs of Pomerol, with the label’s unique artwork illustrated by the American artist Gordon Hopkins playfully representing the estate’s varied environmental tapestry.
Dark ruby. On the nose, firm and rich, it comes through with a classic Bordeaux character of roses, soil and alittle bit of raspberries - aromatic and perfumed. On the palate, raspberries, blackberries and blackcurrants. There’s also some aromatic tobacco. It’s medium-bodied with a nice plushness to the body. The finish, more earthy tones of soil, tobacco, hay, along with a lighter bit of red berry jams. Its aromatic power and the softness of the tannins make it elegant and complex wine, to be tasted today and for the ten years to come.
