A joint venture between Eric Solomon and Jean-Marc Lafage, Tessellae Old Vines is assembled from vineyards on the black schist and clay-limestone soils that Jean-Marc Lafage farms near Maury in the Upper Agly valley. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, it is harvested by hand, fermented for a month after a short pre-fermentation maceration, and aged entirely in concrete tanks.
It's a bold red blend from the Côtes du Roussillon region in southern France. Expect rich notes of blackberry, plum, and spice—perfect for pairing with hearty dishes like beef or pasta.
93 James Suckling Grilled spices, stones and hints of graphite and wild herbs to the red and black berry fruit. Excellent intensity and freshness to the center-palate with svelte but supportive tannins. Really poised. Grenache, syrah and mourvedre. Drink now or hold.
90 Wine Spectator Boasts black plum and red currant flavors that are lush and full, woven with violet, black pepper, tapenade and licorice. Smoky and salty, with singed sandalwood and graphite on the full-bodied palate, while ripe tannins provide a frame. A concentrated red that needs food. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
