Following the custom naming Fonseca's Crusted Ports using bin numbers such as Bin 740 or Bin 82 VG, Alistair Robertson (Fonseca's Chairman) decided to call the new blend Bin 27, in a revival of this tradition.
Blended from selected reserve Ports chosen for their smooth, round, full-bodied palate and their fine, intense fruit character. Bottled when ready to drink so it can be served by the glass directly from the bottle.
Deep youthful ruby color. Intense rich fruity nose crammed with pure blackberry, cassis, cherry and plum aromas interwoven with notes of spice. Full bodied and round, with a smooth, velvety texture balanced by firm mouth filling tannins. Juicy black fruit flavors linger into a rich, luscious finish. This wine pairs well with strong-flavored hard cheeses–a good farmhouse Cheddar or an aged Gouda would be perfect. It is delicious with desserts made with dark chocolate or berries. Made to be enjoyed immediately, without further aging.
Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Tinta Amarela
92 Wine & Spirits Bin 27 remains one of the most reliably delicious Ruby reserves, presenting the plump Fonseca style in a wine that’s remarkably easy to drink. Its scent of purple plums emanates from a luscious texture, the wine’s freshness firmed up by schist tannins. Enjoy a glass with crusty peasant bread and meltingly ripe Queijo Serra da Estrela.
90 Wine Spectator Very expressive, with generous plum, blueberry and açaí berry flavors bursting forth. Shows a polished structure, with a nice jolt of black licorice on the finish. Tasty.
