Frog’s Leap is a pioneering, family-owned winery in Napa Valley founded in 1981 by John Williams. Originally from
Western New York and trained in viticulture and enology at UC Davis, Williams built the winery on a foundation of
humor, heritage, and sustainability. Known for its dry-farmed, organically grown wines, Frog’s Leap has become a
leader in environmentally conscious winemaking, with achievements including silver certification & membership in
International Wineries for Climate Action, CCOF certified organic, and TRUE Zero Waste certified.
Frog's Leap Zinfandel is a deliberate and deeply considered departure from the overripe style that dominated the
category for decades. Inspired by California's legendary old-vine field blend tradition, this wine draws its power from
elegance and structure rather than alcohol, with co-fermented Petite Sirah and Carignane adding backbone and
complexity
Lush layers of wild raspberry and mulberry underscored with a touch of baking spice ... bright acids and soft tannins result in a plush finish. Pair with confidence with a burger or steak off the grill or with your next parpadelle alla bolognese or osso buco. If you can't decide, it also makes for a perfect glass on its own.
Blend: 85% Zinfandel, 14% Petite Sirah, 1% Carignane
93 James Suckling Quite bold and structured, this red has a good bite of tannin to counterbalance the ripe, opulent blackberry and raspberry flavors. A full body also brings dark cherry, dried blueberry, cocoa and graphite accents. Contains 14% petite sirah and 1% carignane. Drink now or hold.
93 Vinous The 2023 Zinfandel is elegant, gracious and lifted. Crushed flowers, white pepper, bright red-toned fruit, cinnamon and cedar lift from the glass. This delicate, aromatic Zinfandel is all charm. The 14% Petite Sirah in the blend is not especially noticeable, likely because it was picked a week ahead, cold-soaked, then infused into the fermenting Zinfandel must. Aging mostly in concrete preserves striking fruit purity.
