Located in Mendoza, Argentina, Ruca Malen was founded in 1998 by Jean Pierre Thibaud and Jacques Louis de Montalembert. The name "Ruca Malen," meaning "the house of the young girl," is inspired by a Mapuche legend. The founders aimed to combine French winemaking traditions with Mendoza's unique terroir. The winery's vineyards are spread across regions like Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo, known for their high-altitude, mineral-rich soils. Since 2020, Agustina Hanna has led the winemaking team, bringing innovation and a focus on sustainability. Ruca Malen is celebrated for its elegant, food-friendly wines that reflect the distinct characteristics of Mendoza.
This 2021 has great character. Notes of black fruits dominate, wild herbs and soft mineral notes are present in the background and provide complexity. In the mouth it has crisp acidity, freshness and a mineral texture that all help
make this wine unique.
93 James Suckling Notes of black raspberries and crushed wild berries with cherry chocolate, dried blood orange, red licorice and dried spicy herbs. Medium- to full-bodied with a plush and succulent blue fruit character. It is dense and compact with broad and velvety tannins and a lingering finish. Drink or hold.
90 Wine Enthusiast Pomegranate, blueberry and mulberry aromas make the nose attractive. Nice acidity energizes a full palate, where ripe black and red fruit flavors extend into the long finish. It has fine tannins and a good structure.
