Crognolo, the first wine of Tenuta Sette Ponti. Born in 1998 from the wine project of the Moretti Cuseri family. An elegant Sangiovese based supertuscan, endowed with a unique identity: between enhancement of territory and vines, excellence, rigor and innovation made from a tradition capable of evolving. The best selection of a historic variety of Sangiovese from a unique clone found in the Vigna dell'Impero 1935 and multiplied in the estate's Sangiovese
vineyards. A small addition of Merlot to give roundness and complexity.
The ruby red color is a prelude to an intense and complex nose, rich in red fruits such as cherries and berries, floral notes such as violets, herbs and spicy notes, giving class and elegance. Elegant and enveloping, with juicy tannins and great vivacity. Notable purity and drinkability. Structured, complex, mineral and round, it suggests excellent aging capabilities.
The name comes from a wild plant "the cornus" that grows abundantly on the estate.
Blend: 90 % Sangiovese; 10 % Merlot
94 James Suckling Fresh strawberries and cherries with some orange peel and flowers. Cedar, black olive and violet undertones. Medium-bodied with firm and racy tannins that give energy and focus. Tangy and fresh with slightly bitter citrus on the palate at the end.
92 Vinous The 2022 Crognolo is a fine entry-level offering from Sette Ponti. Dark, vibrant and persistent, the 2022 races across the palate with dark-fleshed fruit, chocolate, licorice, cloves, menthol and licorice. I especially admire its energy. Grippy tannins support the finish nicely.
91 Wine Spectator Black cherry, blackberry, lavender and spice aromas and flavors signal this dense red, which is tight and compact, yet has plenty of fruit and a well-integrated structure. Fine length.
